The agricultural sector joins electrification: this is how ecological tractors

Electric tractors are already a reality. Discover the modern technology they integrate and how they can help maintain the environment and work.

In order to reduce polluting emissions that affect climate change so much, today’s world seeks to eradicate the use of fossil fuels by all types of vehicles and machines. Know more about audi ne shitje.

In recent times, electric vehicles for use in agriculture, such as tractors , are appearing, which offer a sustainable alternative and entail a lower operating cost , since the cost of fuel and oil is eliminated and the batteries can be charged through renewable energy sources, such as solar or wind power.

This advance is of great importance, since one of the greatest impacts on the environment is caused by the agricultural sector, which, according to experts, causes 20 percent of greenhouse gas emissions globally, mainly due to the use of vehicles and machines that run on fossil fuels.

Electric tractors are a tool to solve this problem, although they face a great challenge: the energy capacity available in the batteries taking into account the power required by typical agricultural tasks.

Electric tractors: a reality

Various well-known brands are developing electric tractors, some of which are already available and operational on the market. We show you the new technology:

John Deere

The North American giant presents a fully autonomous electric tractor that is already on sale, and, in fact, is operational on some farms. It is based on the company’s 8R tractor. The vehicle has an artificial intelligence system capable of recognizing different situations, types of crops and soils, even differentiating weeds. Likewise, it has GPS and other technologies that allow the tractor to be autonomous , including six 360º cameras for calculating the distances of the objects displayed and the detection of obstacles.

fendt

Fendt introduces a practical compact tractor, the Fendt e100 Vario , totally electric with 50 Kw of power , which can work up to 5 hours uninterruptedly in real conditions of use. The power source is a 650 V high-performance lithium-ion battery with a capacity of approximately 100 kWh. The battery is charged with 400 V and up to 22 Kw through a standard CEE external socket or through a direct current recharge option. A standard type 2 CCS plug allows the battery to be recharged in 40 minutes up to 80 percent.

Solectrac

Solectrac already has its e70N model for sale , a completely electric tractor, with a maximum power of 70 horsepower, equipped with a 60 kWh battery that recharges in 6 hours with 8 kW solar panels or in about 8-10 hours if recharges in a 220V 50A socket. It has four-wheel drive and can work between 4 and 8 hours . It is a tractor designed to work in vineyards and in operations within the farm that require good maneuverability.

Monarch Tractor

Autonomous tractor that can work with or without a driver . It is equipped with an electric transmission capable of providing 40 continuous horsepower and a short-term maximum power of up to 70 horsepower in a small footprint for multiple use. It is capable of collecting and analyzing more than 240 GB of crop data each day it operates in the field. The Monarch tractor is packed with safety features including sway and collision prevention, vision-based PTO safety and 360° cameras to keep operations running smoothly and employees safe, day or night.

Kubota

The Kubota X- tractor electric tractor is fully autonomous . It is equipped with artificial intelligence that allows you to select the most appropriate operation at any time. It has an electric drivetrain with in-wheel motors powered by a combination of solar and lithium-ion batteries. It can be driven without any problem on uneven terrain thanks to its trackers since it can adjust its height at all times according to terrain conditions. The motors built into the wheels of the electric drive train make it possible for the vehicle to momentarily change the speed of the four trackers to reduce the turning radius of the tractor, thus facilitating maneuvers on different types of land.
